Aesetou Hydara is a Bronx Native and child of Gambian immigrants. She is a senior at New York University's College of Arts and Sciences, with a focus on History, Psychology and Africana Studies. Aesetou plays an active role on and off-campus as the President of the Black Muslim Initiative at NYU, in addition to serving as Vice President of African Heritage Month. Furthermore, she is in on the Academics Committee of the Academic Achievement Program. Aesetou is dedicated to serving low-income and underrepresented communities and hopes to pursue a career in the public service field. As for her participation on campus she has received the Future of Africa Award from the African Student Union at NYU. She has had to opportunity to travel to countries like Colombia, Turkey, and Ghana and is dedicated to learning about different cultures and the social issues that plague those communities.
